FAQs

What can I expect leading up to walk weekend?

We are hopeful that we will be able to walk in person at our walk locations. If we need to, we will change the walk to virtual and ask people to walk their block as we did in 2020. Please ensure you stay tuned for emails, social media posts and website for the latest updates.

My mobility is limited. Do I need to do the walk in order to participate?

No, you are encouraged to join us regardless! If you can’t walk, consider making a sign and putting it in your window or taping it to your garage door on walk weekend. Use this opportunity as a way to send a message of awareness and a message of Hope! If you still want to do something small, consider walking to the end of your driveway and back if that is what you can do! What matters is that you participated to show the world that a Parkinson’s diagnosis is not the end of your story!

How do I register?
You can register either as an individual or a team. Find your closest location near you by clicking here and registering.

You can share an online donation page with your family, friends and co-workers. You can also download a pledge form from your participant center to fundraise in person.

Where can I find the pledge form?
Pledge forms can be downloaded from your participant center or we can mail one to you. Give us a call at 1-888-851-7376.

I’d love to share my participation, what is the best way?

The best way is to share with your friends, family and community! Gather pictures or video from previous years and post it on social media. Make sure to tag us so that we can see it! Type @ParkinsonSocietySWO on facebook and @parkinsonswo on Instagram as well as use the hashtag #WALKFORPD. You can also share an email through your participant center with family and friends to invite them to walk or donate!

We don’t know if we can be together with friends and family, but can we still be a team?

Yes! Of course! Maybe your sister and family are walking in Goderich, but you’re walking in Kitchener-Waterloo – that’s great! You can STILL be a team. Don’t let the website confuse you! Whoever creates the team will be where the funds are raised. So even though it may SHOW that you’re registered for the Kitchener-Waterloo walk, it’s still okay to walk in Goderich. All funds raised stay LOCAL to support programs and services in Southwestern Ontario so you don’t have to worry that your funds won’t be used in your community.

What methods of payment can be used?

Online donations can be made by Visa and MasterCard. In person donations can be made. Please ensure you are following the cash & cheque donation information found in your participant center. Please ensure that cheques are made payable to Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.

Will people who donate receive a tax receipt?
Tax receipts are automatically issued for all online donations, regardless of the amount. Tax receipts will be manually issued and mailed for donations of $20 or more collected in person. If a donor gives less than $20, and require a tax receipt, please make note and we will be sure to provide that.

How will the money raised be used?
Funds raised support programs and services that improve the quality of life for people living with Parkinson's and their families in Southwestern Ontario. Funds are spread across four areas: Support Services, Education, Advocacy and Research

If I plan to participate virtually, or regulations change and we all have to work virtually, can I ride my bike or inline skates?
Yes, of course! However you choose to Walk for Parkinson's is great! The important thing is that you are showing your community that you are supporting people living with Parkinson’s Disease
